AFS INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR
EDUCATORS
There's more to AFS than student exchanges
"The trip to China for AFS was one of the high points of my
teaching career...nothing compares to experiencing the country firsthand."
says Starr DiCiurcio who traveled to China with the AFS Global Educators
Program in 1999.
Through AFS Global Educators you can:
Go abroad for a month of intensive learning.
Host a visiting teacher at your school.
Host a visiting teacher in your home.
AFS understands the role that teachers play in shaping the perspectives
of coming generations. For American teachers who want to experience
the diversity of a foreign country first hand, AFS offers the opportunity
to teach in month-long intensive programs in Thailand and Eygpt in 2006.
Participants combine in-class teaching and observation with immersion
in the culture of the host country, exploration of their history and
updates on current issues and events. Visiting teachers may travel as
a group, staying with host families, in dormitories or in hostels.
By knowing more people, I minimized the misunderstandings;
I also learned that no matter where you are from, we are all human.
Sarah, Egypt/US, Partnership for Learning Youth Exchange & Study
Program (YES), 2004.
It was wonderful to stay with Thai host families, to experience
the schools on many levels, and to be able to travel in local area...I
really enjoyed being part of this program." Betty Hopkins,
Global Educators, Thailand, 1999.
Whether you are a starting teacher, a college professor, a senior administrator,
or you want to host a visiting teacher in your school, the AFS Global
Educators Program can help.
Visiting teachers come to the US for a semester or a year. These teachers
bring an irreplaceable perspective on their home country. You can't
top learning about China from someone who lives there! Visiting
teachers are all certified in their home country. They come to learn
American teaching methods, but they are also anxious to share teaching
skills from their home country.
